The brief for this design was for a formal area near the house with year round interest and a small veg patch for easy access leading to a wild area with pond, willow arbour and native planting, creating a haven for wild life and privacy.
The Axonometric Projection (below right) shows the height and depth of the design. My client used the design to create the garden themselves. Having a clear design and detailed planting list enabled them to work on it in stages when time allowed, without losing focus.

Relax more…mow less. Do you have a sunny spot to plant any of these plants adored by pollinators… Alliums, Stachys bizantina, Calaminta nepeta, Borage, Origanum, Centurea or Knautia macedonica. Or the amazingly long flowering ‘Geranium ‘Rozanne’ or single flowered Hellebores in a shady corner?
This simple Family garden gives plenty of room for entertaining and eating out on the patio with a small seating area at the end of the garden to catch the all important late sun. The wide shallow steps are ideal for toddlers to manoeuvre on.
“Cath is a sensitive and knowledgeable plantswoman and designer who takes into account her clients’ budget as well as their ideas to come to a creative solution. I cannot recommend Cath highly enough.” Chris, Frenchay
This Low Maintenance Garden provided a screen of soft airy planting to be viewed from the Conservatory with evergreen shrubs disguising the boundary and requiring very little maintenance.
